Scrimshaw is the ancient sailors' folk art of engraving whale teeth and other exotic materials found on shipboard, in order to make gifts for loved ones or useful articles for sale or trade amongst shipmates. Michael Strzalkowski (Scrim) sailed into English Harbour in 1976 and established himself as a scrimshaw artist. He has since established a reputation for fine, original work, specialising in custom commissions. The studio is located in Church Street, Falmouth, and pieces may be viewed at the gallery, Rhythm of Blue Art Gallery, Dockyard Drive, English Harbour, which is open for trade on weekdays.
